We try to link art and craft activities to the outdoors in many ways, such as creating collages from fallen leaves, twigs and flowers etc, making miniature gardens and observational drawing of the local wildlife, to name a few.
Our interactive guest workshops have included a little zoo of small animals, where a local expert teaches the children about each animal and their natural environment.
Not only does this variety of interaction increase their self-confidence, self-esteem and social skills but also facilitates a connection to self, nature and the community.
We believe this combination assists children to grow and develop resilience, confidence, physical skills, curious minds, playful spirits and respect, empathy and understanding for nature and each other, helping them to develop many life skills using the wild around us!
Children love to get their hands mucky and what better way than during gardening activities.
Research suggests that children’s performance at school improves when they’re involved with gardening and many will embrace a keener interest in healthy eating if they grow their own fruit and veg.
Achieving success in growing your own plants as children is often a person’s first recollection of gardening.
Here at Indigo, children get to enjoy a variety of creative green finger activities. They get to grow vegetables, flowers, herbs and other edible plants – a wonderfully simple way to learn about planting seeds and seeing the rewards.
Gardening is a healthy hobby that children will often continue throughout their lives.
Learning about gardening goes hand in hand with the wonderment of nature. Kids get to discover about all the wildlife on their doorstep.
